Chiefs travel chaos for Broncos game after huge delays due to freezing weather

THE Kansas City Chiefs finally touched down in Denver after a horror day of travel that saw their flight to Colorado delayed for hours.

The Super Bowl champions are on the road to face the Broncos in their last regular season game of the NFL season.

But a winter storm left them stranded on the runway for four hours – the players were left parked on the flight.

Eventually, they took off and landed in Denver with the likes of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce seen stepping off the plane.

That is despite quarterback Mahomes being rested for the match against with the Chiefs already securing No1 seed in the AFC.

There had also been doubt over whether Mahomes would travel with his team as he and his wife Brittany are expecting their third child.

Kelce could also sit out despite travelling with his squad.

According to Fox4 News, the Chiefs were due to leave for Denver around 2:45pm on Saturday.

But it was not until around 6:30pm ET that they they finally took off.

Authorities had to close the airfield at Kansas City International Airport as storms led to “rapid ice accumulation”.

The flight from Kansas City to Denver is usually two hours but further delays followed.

That was because the airport’s de-icing machine malfunctioned, delaying the departure of flights, Fox4 News reported.

The Chiefs are said to have attempted to switch travel plans to leave earlier in the day.

But their charter plane going from Denver was late arriving into Kansas – forcing them to stick to their scheduled departure time.

Around 5:30pm ET, it was announced that the runways were reopening to “resume normal operations”.
