Chrome for Android gets the ability to color-code Tab Groups

Google has quietly rolled out a new useful feature for the Chrome browser on Android devices. The new Chrome functionality now allows Android users to color-code their Tab Groups. Earlier, the app only allowed you to assign a name to the Tab Group. Now, the latest update for Chrome on Android devices brings desktop-level customization options.

Chrome for Android is getting a server-side update with the feature to color-code Tab Groups

According to a report by 9to5Google, the Chrome app’s version 127 for Android has received a new update. The latest upgrade brings the ability to color-code Tab Groups on Chrome for Android. Once you get the update, Chrome will now automatically assign a color to the Tab Groups. It is similar to what you have on the desktop counterpart, which has offered various customization options since the start.

Now, when you have multiple Tab Groups on Chrome, you can go to the tab switcher and change their color code. The app now lets you assign as many as 9 different colors to your Tab Groups.

Furthermore, Google is also working on a new feature to let Android users access their Tab Groups from the desktop browser. Google hasn’t yet widely rolled out this functionality. However, once it rolls out, you will be able to go to Settings > Tabs and turn on/off “Automatically open tab groups from other devices”.

Also, you can manually enable it in the Chrome beta version 128 for Android. To switch it on, you have to turn on two flags – “chrome://flags/#tab-group-sync-android” and “chrome://flags/#tab-group-pane-android”. Simply copy and paste these flags in the address bar to manually switch on the new feature to access Tab Groups from other devices.

Chrome for Android and desktop will soon simplify signing in with Google Accounts

Notably, the Chrome browser on Android and desktop devices will let you access saved passwords and more with a new simplified signing-in process. The new much simpler sign-in option will replace the Chrome Sync feature. Soon, you will be able to sign into your Google Account to access Chrome data across devices. The new functionality will be released to all Android and desktop users in the coming weeks. The company originally introduced this feature for iOS in November last year.
