Chucky Stars React To Show’s “Surprise” Cancellation As They Encourage Shopping Network To Save Horror Series
Chucky stars Brad Dourif and Fiona Dourif have reacted to the show’s “surprise” cancellation as they encourage the horor series to get saved at another network. Despite plans for Chucky season 4 having plenty of room to grow following the many wild events of season 3, USA Network and Syfy cancelled the series in September 2024. Despite positive reception from many who watched it week-to-week, the series simply wasn’t garnering the views necessary to justify continuing its wild, horrifying story. However, that hasn’t stopped hopes the show could continue elsewhere.
Now, Bloody Disgusting reports that, while speaking at a panel at Terror Con in Marlborough, Massachusetts, Brad Dourif (Chucky) and his daughter, Fiona Dourif (Nica Pierce), revealed their thoughts about Chucky getting cancelled. They acknowledged how swift and surprising the news was, with Fiona believing the show’s streaming numbers on Peacock could get it brought back to life on another network. Brad teased details for a potential season 4, but refused to say much out of hopes the show would continue in some form. Check out what Brad and Fiona had to say below:
Fiona Dourif
: I have been on the phone with Don [Mancini, creator of
Chucky
]. It was a surprise that we got canceled. It was released last night. At this point, what we’re hoping to do and what should be done and would be normal for a show as successful as Chucky’s been – because the ratings were solidly good and reviewed extremely well; the numbers were great at Peacock – is that it would be marketed to other networks. The extent that there could be pressure on the powers that be to have that happen, I think that everybody who is involved in making the show would appreciate that. There’s no reason on earth why it shouldn’t be marketed to other networks.”Brad Dourif
: I’m not gonna tell you because it might get done, and it’s brilliant. You’re gonna have to get on the internet and make it happen!
What Brad & Fiona Dourif’s Statements Say About Chucky’s Cancellation
The Series Could Still Have Some Life Left In It
Chucky season 3 continued to expand on the Child’s Play timeline, ending with Jake (Zackary Arthur) possessed by Chucky, who manages to transfers his soul back into his typical doll form. The season ends with Caroline (Carina London Battrick) driving away with both him and Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly), as well as marionettes that house Jake, Devon (Björgvin Arnarson), and Lexi’s (Alyvia Alyn Lind) souls. Thi finale sets the stage for more chaos to come, making the cancellation of the series all the more disappointing due to the interesting direction it was about to take.
Despite its unceremonious end, Child’s Play franchise creator Don Mancini confirmed the character of Chucky would return, though it’s unclear if this will happen in TV or movie format. The statements from Brad and Fiona Dourif offer some hope the TV series can come back, especially given the major cliffhanger finale it ended on. Although there’s no concrete information yet about how it could return, its streaming numbers could point to a new home on Peacock, or any other service that would be willing to invest in continuing Chucky‘s story.
Our Take On Chucky’s Possible Return At A New Home
The Franchise Should Continue Its Story Somehow
In March 2024, Mancini revealed a new Child’s Play movie would be happening, taking place after the events of the TV series. While it’s unclear what the film will be about, it could be the perfect way to continue Chucky‘s storyline, giving bookends to the major characters and events that have happened throughout its time on the air. However, we also think seeing the show run for at least one more season would be worthwhile, as it would offer a way to conclude the show without rushing the character arcs and ideas in store.
Chucky
season 3 currently sits at a 100% critics score and 83% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
