Civic Center arena, theater ranked in top 100 nationwide for ticket sales

The Peoria Civic Center’s arena and theater were ranked among the top 100 venues for ticket sales in the first half of 2024, according to a prominent music trade publication.

According to a news release provided by the Civic Center, Pollstar said that the arena had the 67th most tickets sold in the first half of 2024, with 79,707 tickets sold for events such as concerts for singers and groups such as Journey, Disturbed, Sam Hunt, Breaking Benjamin & Daughtry, Lauren Daigle and Whiskey Myers.

In terms of gross sales, the arena saw more than $5 million in sales, ranking 78th nationwide.

The Civic Center theater, which hosts smaller, more intimate events such as stand-up comedy from the likes of Shane Gillis, musical acts such as Queensryche and Violent Femmes, and Broadway in Peoria, sold 38,291 tickets, good enough for the 93rd most in the U.S. It had over $2 million in grosses, which ranked 95th across the country.

The rankings were part of Pollstar’s mid-year rankings of the top music performers and venues across the United States and the world, with venues being ranked in a wide variety of different fields, from arenas and stadiums to amphitheaters and clubs. Each venue was ranked in terms of how many tickets they sold and how much money they grossed from those sales.

Rik Edgar, the civic center’s general manager, said that the strong ticket sales were a sign of how well things have been playing in Peoria for organizers, staff and their audience.

“Selling 120,000 concert tickets in a six-month period is an affirmation of great fans, partners and a dedicated team we have in Peoria,” Edgar said in the news release. “With the game changing renovations taking place in the venue, we are ecstatic about continuing the positive momentum into the future.”

Those renovations, according to the news release, include new carpeting and concessions, updated bathrooms, new flooring on the theater stage and a brand new scoreboard for the arena, complete with LED ribbon boards across the balcony.
