No. 1 Georgia scored 28 second-half points to crush No. 14 Clemson , 34-3, in the Aflac Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday.
The Tigers (0-1) held strong on defense through the first half and trailed only 6-0 at intermission before the Bulldogs (1-0) turned the highly anticipated Week 1 matchup into a laugher.
Carson Beck threw two touchdowns and 278 passing yards as part of a 23 of for 33 day, and tailback Nate Frazier ran for 83 yards and a score on 11 carries.
Georgia finished with over 250 more yards of total offense than Clemson (447 to the Tigers’ 188). Cade Klubnik was 18 of 29 passing for just 142 yards and an interception, and the Bulldogs shut down the Tigers’ running game with Phil Mafah held to only 16 carries for 59 yards.
The Tigers will have to put Saturday’s drubbing behind them in a hurry with Appalachian State visiting Death Valley on Sept. 7 for Clemson’s home opener at Memorial Stadium.
