Columbia man arrested after allegedly stabbing woman on East Business Loop 70

A Columbia man is in custody after allegedly stabbing a woman Thursday night at the intersection of East Business Loop 70 and Garth Avenue.

Murphy Hughes Jr., 69, was arrested for first-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and tampering with evidence, online jail records show.

He’s being held in the Boone County Jail without bail, according to online jail records.

Officers responded to a physical disturbance between two men Thursday around 6:49 p.m. at the intersection and found a woman with a stab wound from a knife, according to the Columbia Police Department.

An image CPD shared on Facebook shows police tape in the parking lot of the Break Time gas station at that intersection.

Police say the woman was taken to the hospital and treated for serious injuries.
