Commissioner Eduardo “Eddie” Cantu Launches Adaptive Fitness Initiative
Texas Border Business
PHARR, Texas – Hidalgo County Precinct 2 Commissioner Eduardo “Eddie” Cantu will host the inaugural Fitness 500 Club Award Ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the Hidalgo County Precinct 2 Indoor Sports Complex, located at 3600 Athol St., Pharr, TX 78577.
The event will mark the formal introduction of the P2 StrongFit Program, a free, adaptive physical fitness initiative designed for individuals of all ages, including those with disabilities.
Led by certified trainer and Precinct 2 supervisor Carlos Bracamontes, the P2 StrongFit Program provides residents and local students with tailored exercises that focus on their unique abilities. The program is rooted in the concept of “hope molecules,” a scientific principle highlighting how movement stimulates the release of proteins and chemicals in the body that reduce stress, improve mental health, and build resilience.
Participants engage in low-impact, functional training using professional-grade equipment, including:
· Concept 2 Rowers
· Concept 2 Ski-Ergs
· Air Assault Bikes
· LifeBand Circuit Training Equipment
The program fosters an inclusive and supportive environment, ensuring all participants feel empowered to achieve their fitness goals.

To further encourage participation, Commissioner Cantu established the StrongFit Fitness 500 Club, recognizing students from PSJA ISD and Valley View ISD who have reached the milestone of rowing, skiing, and biking 500 meters each.
“We are so proud of the students who have joined the StrongFit Fitness 500 Club,” said Cantu. “Their accomplishments showcase the power of adaptive fitness in transforming lives, and I am thrilled to see this program thriving.”
Through StrongFit, participants not only improve their physical health but also build connections with peers, fostering social-emotional growth and confidence. The program aims to create a community where individuals feel a sense of belonging and believe in their limitless potential.
The P2 StrongFit Program underscores Hidalgo County’s commitment to inclusivity, health, and community building.
