Committee taking nominations for York Area Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2025

Do you know someone who has made a significant contribution to York County sports?

If so, the York Area Sports Hall of Fame would like to hear about them.

The hall of fame committee is accepting nominations through March 1 for Class of 2025 inductees. Athletes, coaches and other contributors, patrons or supporters must meet specific criteria to be nominated.

Athletes in sports with limited career spans, such as baseball, football, basketball, etc., must be finished with their playing careers in that particular sport. Athletes in lifetime sports (golf, bowling, running, etc.), coaches, contributors and supporters must have achieved a clear level of excellence for at least 10 years and be at least 45 years old.

In all cases, the nominee “must have made a significant accomplishment or impact at the high school, college, amateur or pro level, with emphasis on significant,” the hall of fame website states.

The nominee must also have a clear and defined connection to York County through participation or contributions for the betterment of the community. Residency doesn’t warrant nomination.

The York Sports Hall of Fame began in 1973 with the induction of Ken Raffensburger, John DeBarbadillo, Bob Hoffman, C.C. “Doc” Bleeker and Lawrence Sheppard. At least one person has been inducted every year since then except for 2020.
