Community Serve Day offers free health services including sports and health physical exams

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV)—The Church of the Nazarene is hosting a community service day on July 27. During this day, locals can receive free health services, including Sports physical exams, mammograms, and haircuts.

The Church of the Nazarene asked the Blue Ridge Free Clinic (BRFC) to offer sports and health physicals on the service day. Executive Director of the BRFC Susan Adamson says she learned the need for physicals is great in the city after servicing 64 individuals last year on service day.

“They are making it a really festive event at the same time, we are addressing the healthcare needs of the community,” said Adamson, who says locals and those without insurance will be able to receive the exams. Adamson also says many who come out and receive physicals do so because of the cost and care providers availability. The BRFC serves as a “Bridge to Health” for anyone with unmet medical needs who does not have a healthcare provider while offering temporary care to its clients.

In addition to the BRFC offering health and sports physicals, other partners, like Sentara Care, will be onsite offering mammograms. Paraffin manicures, food and clothing, and haircuts will also be free services offered onsite.

Community Serve Day will be held on July 27 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene.
