Conference committee reveals compromise on gambling

A conference committee of three Senators and three Representatives revealed its compromise for gambling.

The new versions of House Bill 151 and House Bill 152 include:

  • a state lottery with revenue dedicated to education
  • electronic games of chance at seven locations
  • a gaming compact with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians
  • traditional raffles and paper bingo

Sports betting is not included.

The bills provide for a gambling commission and a lottery corporation.

The House will vote on the bills first. If passed they will move to the Senate.

If passed by both chambers, voters would have their say on August 20, 2024.

This story will be updated.
