Congrats on the Promotion, Anthony Mackie
Chris Evans passed off the star-spangled shield to Anthony Mackie at the end of Avengers: Endgame approximately 86 years ago. Now, the new Cap is finally picking it up. Anthony Mackie stars in Captain America: Brave New World, the fourth installment of the saga about a scientifically enhanced soldier who often faces perilous threats from corrupt governments the world over. If the first trailer is anything to go by, this film won’t be much different from its predecessors. He gets called up by the president himself (Harrison Ford) to head the revamped partnership between Captain America and the American military. What could go wrong? Well, the guy whose reelection campaign slogan is the hilariously unproblematic phrase “Together” doesn’t seem to notice that there are rotten apples deep in the force and they’re literally trying to assassinate him. “Global power is shifting,” someone tells America’s newest ass. “You’re just a pawn.” As the White House blows up and bullets fly, the commander-in-chief gets a little rude: “You may be Captain America, but you’re not Steve Rodgers.” A little congratulations would have sufficed. The brave new world arrives February 14, 2025.
