Congresswoman launches Slow Fashion Caucus to combat fast fashion’s environmental toll
Congresswoman Chellie Pingree wants to find ways to make clothes that last longer and do less harm to the environment.
Pingree says the rise of fast fashion is an urgent issue as it uses cheap manufacturing and is taking a massive toll on our environment.
To help change, she and a group of fellow lawmakers are announcing the launch of the “Slow Fashion Caucus.”
“Slow Fashion Caucus” is trying to find answers to how the fashion industry and federal government can make a difference.
“We’ve developed these dual habits in our country keeping up with every single fashion trend and purchasing cheap poorly made clothing and they have become drivers of yet one more issue in our climate change crisis. In fact, the fashion industry is responsible for more carbon admissions than all international flights and maritime shipping combined,” said Pingree.
Congresswoman Pingree is encouraging others to reduce, rewear, repair, and recycle textiles in order to keep our environment clean.
