Conor McGregor launches his own record label in Ireland, adding to business empire
Conor McGregor really is taking Jay-Z’s advice to heart because he’s not just a businessman. He’s a business, man.
As the Irish superstar continues to expand his footprint outside the octagon, McGregor’s latest venture is launching his own record label based out of his native homeland. The new label, dubbed Greenback Records, is touted as the first major label launched in Dublin as McGregor partners with Richard Buck and Julian O’Brien on the project.
The news was first reported by Sunday World in Ireland.
McGregor’s label is expected to be a “multi-genre” producer with artists earning a fair share of the profits and expectations for payouts that are “currently unheard of in the industry.”
“I am excited to create Ireland’s first major record label in an industry that I have had great interest in for some time,” McGregor said regarding the launch. “To be able to come in and offer music artists a fair deal and properly reward them for their talent.
“This industry, like others, has needed an overhaul for a long time. I am excited for myself, McGregor Sports & Entertainment, to partner with Richard and Julian as founders to bring Greenback Records to life!”
Greenback Records has reportedly already signed numerous artists, although no announcements were made alongside the launch of the label.
McGregor starting his own record label is just the latest in a long line of business ventures he’s started since becoming the biggest draw in UFC history.
Most notably, McGregor started his own whiskey brand, Proper No. 12, which was eventually sold to Proximo Spirits in a deal reportedly worth $600 million. Of course, McGregor took home a big chunk of that cash as the original founder of the brand, which he still promotes.
He also launched Forged Irish Stout beer, a brand that has continued to expand into new markets across the globe in recent months. McGregor also became a part owner in BKFC back in April.
As far as his fighting career goes, McGregor hasn’t competed since 2021 but was expected to return in June until he suffered a broken toe that forced him out of his scheduled matchup against Michael Chandler.
McGregor has continued to tease his return before the end of 2024, but nothing has been made official by the UFC regarding his next fight.
