Cops & Kids Go Shopping seeking community support

FINDLAY, Ohio (WTVG) – Law enforcement officers have been taking kids in need shopping to help make the holidays more special in the Findlay area since 2002. Now, the program is looking for more community support amid rising costs.

In 2020, the Fort Findlay FOP Lodge 20 Foundation, the foundation that organizes the event, transitioned from a national program to a local approach to ensure every dollar raised for the program stays in Hancock County. The transition ensures the support stays in the community but it also makes the foundation rely more on the generosity of individuals, businesses and organizations in the area.

“Inflation and increased costs have impacted everyone, including this program,” Teresa White, development director of the Fort Findlay FOP Lodge 20 Foundation said. “We’ve always done our best to provide for as many children as possible, but the demand and the cost of items have grown significantly.

In 2023, officers shopped with 140 children in the area and gave each child $200 to spend on toys, clothing and other essentials. According to the foundation, inflation and rising costs have stretched resources thin.

Now, the foundation is asking for donations to continue providing a special holiday memory for children in need. Donations can be made online, or mailed to the foundation. Donations are tax-deductible.
