Jill Agusta, of Connors Mercantile, discusses Small Business Saturday
Jill Agusta, store manager of Connors Mercantile in Corning, talks about the importance of Small Business Saturday.
Black Friday is Nov. 29, but for years Small Business Saturday, held the following day, kicks off the holiday shopping in Corning’s Gaffer District.
Coleen Fabrizi, executive director of the Gaffer District, said Black Friday is always a fun day to shop on Market Street, and Small Business Saturday is a popular event celebrating the local businesses, restaurants, and galleries on historic Market Street.
Fabrizi encourages residents and visitors on Small Business Saturday, which geared to support local businesses, to kick off their day at the Gaffer District Small Business Saturday Information Table in M&T Bank, at 5 E. Market St., to grab a custom shop small bag.
“We really look forward to Small Business Saturday because consumers come out and really love to support our local businesses,” Fabrizi said. “Our partnership with M&T Bank will make it possible again this year to hand out bags to shoppers that have gift cards from Gaffer District businesses. They will be handed out at the M&T location on Market Street while supplies last.”
Fabrizi said gifts cards have been randomly placed in the bags with denominations ranging from $5 to $50.
Jill Agusta, Connors Mercantile store manager, said Small Business Saturday always has a very positive effect on all businesses on Market Street.
“The community really comes together and shops local,” Agusta said. “It’s a huge support for us. It’s great. It’s kind of like the start of our whole holiday season.”
Sarah Files, owner Pip’s Boutique on Market Street, said Small Business Saturday is always a fun day.
“Every business does sales or something fun,” Files said. “It’s just a nice way for customers to come out and support the community.”
