Corporate Fitness Works Acquired by HealthFitness
St. Petersburg-based Corporate Fitness Works, Inc. (CFW) has been acquired by Illinois’ HealthFitness, Inc., a subsidiary of Trustmark Benefits that provides comprehensive fitness, wellness and injury prevention programs. The move combines two established entities in the corporate wellness sector.
CFW CEO Michael Vivio previously served as CEO of Valpak Direct Marketing and publisher of the Austin American-Statesman. CFW Board Chair Beth Vivio was executive director of a 13-county Girl Scout council in Texas. In 2018, the Vivios acquired CFW, a company specializing in fitness management for workplace populations that manages 70 fitness centers across 23 states, offering both in-person and virtual wellness services.
Under the Vivios’ ownership, CFW expanded its client base and adapted to market changes, notably by developing virtual fitness services during the Covid-19 pandemic to support remote workers. “The Covid-19 shutdowns required a quick response to continue supporting our clients,” said Michael Vivio in a prepared statement. “By creating our own content and focusing on our members, we were able to meet the demands of this unprecedented shift.”
The sale to HealthFitness integrates CFW’s expertise with HealthFitness’s existing operations, which serve over 200 clients at more than 360 sites nationwide. This acquisition is expected to provide CFW’s 300 employees with additional resources and career growth opportunities. “We feel good handing off our team, and this company, to HealthFitness because their commitment to culture and excellence mirrors ours,” expressed Beth Vivio.
HealthFitness CEO Sean McManamy said his firm’s leadership has “admired and respected Corporate Fitness Works as a strong competitor for many years,” as sees the acquisition as “bringing together two industry leaders with strong capabilities, a wealth of experience and a shared commitment to building community and connection among members.”
