Couple set to make HER-story with sports bar in Kansas City
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The fever pitch in Kansas City surrounding sports speaks for itself—especially at local bars where almost every game is seen, heard, and celebrated.
But the silence does not go unnoticed.
“The amount of times we have gone to a bar to watch a women’s game and had to ask, ‘Hey, can you put it on?’ Let alone we are not going to hear it at all,” Rachel Glenn said.
She and her wife, Monica Brady, are hoping to change the game in Kansas City by creating a space that sounds, feels, and looks like it is made for them.
“We are standing inside of what will be The Dub,” Brady said as she looked around the downtown site.
The Dub will be KC’s first women’s sports bar.
“The Dub is a bar where we are going to be championing and prioritizing women’s sports on TV. We want to have the sound on.” Brady went on, “We really want to give the athletes, the teams and the sports themselves the platform that they’ve always deserved.”
As viewership for women’s sports reaches historic levels, Brady and Glenn believe women need a space to feel comfortable.
“There are so many women that probably want to go out and watch sports whether it’s the Chiefs or a women sport,” Glenn said. “They may not have a bar they feel comfortable going to alone. That is one of the reasons we want this to be a safe, inclusive environment.”

The bar will be less than 10 minutes away from the first stadium in the world to be built just for a women’s professional sports team—CPKC Stadium, home of the KC Current.
“The Current is just killing it and we’re so excited for them,” Brady said.
The Dub will join a list of other women’s sports bars across the country, including Sports Bra in Portland, Oregon.
“Jenny [Sports Bra owner] has been so successful and really brought to light what women sports can do in a bar setting,” Brady said. “So, we are so grateful for the pioneers that have come before us because it really shows that there’s a market for it.”
The Dub is set to open to women and men by January 2025.
Until then, Brady and Glenn have been hosting pop-up events around KC. The next event is set for Nov. 3 at the Drunken Worm at 2 p.m.
