Court order freezes Lipscomb city assets as involvement in bingo lawsuit continues

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) — A new court order temporarily restrains the city of Lipscomb and other listed defendants from engaging in prohibited business activities related to illegal gambling.

Activities such as offering or profiting from gambling machines are not allowed.

The city is a defendant in a case involving Jay’s Charity Bingo because “the municipality [is] responsible for enforcement of the game of bingo and the party that has licensed and continues to profit and obtain illegal funding from the illegal gambling.]

The court order also freezes the assets of the defendants to prevent the transfer or dissipation and mandates financial disclosures to the plaintiff.

The defendants were also ordered to maintain records, avoid destroying relevant documents, and disclose any new business activities.
