Although Cedar Creek dropped its fourth straight game last Friday at Glenbrook, the Cougars took some strides in a few areas according to head coach William Parkerson.

Parkerson and Co. will get another opportunity to improve tonight when they travel to Delta Charter for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The game can be heard on 93.3 FM with Ray Creasy and Ben Haddox providing the call of the action.

For the first time this season, the Cougars took a double digit lead last week when a safety, a defensive TD and a two-point conversion in the first quarter gave Creek a 10-0 advantage against the Apache.

However, turnovers, penalties and other self-inflicted wounds led to a 36-16 win by Glenbrook.

Parkerson is focused on some of the improvements he saw.

“Cason (Floyd) made a big jump at quarterback,” said Parkerson. “He read the option better than he has all year. He was more decisive runner when he kept it. Offensive line for the most part did really well.”

Floyd carried the ball a season-high 11 times for 29 yards in the contest.

Those positives simply didn’t outweigh the negatives for Creek as an interception, a fumble and two turnovers on punting situations allowed Glenbrook outstanding field position. The Cougars were also called for 12 penalties.

“We have to finish drives and not shoot ourselves in the foot with penalties,” said Parkerson. “We have to take advantage of our scoring opportunities when we get them.”

The Cougars defense has scored three TDs this year and set up a fourth by returning a fumble to the opponents one-yard line. They also recorded a safety against Glenbrook.

Delta Charter enters tonight’s game with a 2-1 record, posting wins over LaSalle (36-6) and Vidalia (18-8) while falling to Ferriday (32-14).

The Cougars defense will once again be tested with a mobile quarterback and a talented running back, according to Parkerson.

“They are spread, usually one tight end and three wide (receivers),” said Parkerson. “They use the jet sweep and stuff off of the jet sweep. That’s their bread and butter.

“Their quarterback and running back are their two best runners. The jet sweep guys are eye candy more than anything. On film, they don’t hand it off very often.”

Defensively, the Storm are led by a physical, interior lineman.

“Everything starts from the 3-4,” said Parkerson. “The nose tackle is their best player on defense. Their linebackers are pretty good, but the nose tackle is the guy on defense.”
