Crooks smash car into Colorado Springs business, steal items for 30+ time in 2024
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Crooks rammed their way into a store and stole merchandise inside, the latest in a string of smash-and-grab crimes plaguing Colorado Springs.
The break-in was reported just after 1:40 Wednesday morning at the Smoke and Vape shop, located in a shopping center near the corner of South Academy and Astrozon. The suspects drove straight into the front of the store, and after helping themselves to merchandise, ran from the scene before officers arrived.
When 11 News got on scene, the mangled door was dangling from its hinges and shattered glass was littered across the entryway.
As of 4:30 a.m., police are still going through the scene, assessing what all was taken. In many similar cases this year, the cost of the destruction to the store has often exceeded the loss of merchandise and left the owners with as much as tens of thousands of dollars in damage.
Wednesday’s burglary is one of more than 30 similar crimes in Colorado Springs in 2024 alone.
This is a developing story; keep checking back for updates.
