Crucial Unveils Next-Gen DDR5 CUDIMM Memory: Up To 5600 MT/s Speeds In 32 GB Kits, 64 GB Modules Next Year

Crucial has unveiled its next-gen DDR5 CUDIMM memory which offers a clock driver on 16 GB DRAM modules with up to 6400 MT/s speeds.

Crucial Rolls Out World’s First DDR5 CUDIMM Memory: 32 GB Kit Starting at $169 For 6400 MT/s Speeds

With the launch of the Intel Core Ultra 200S CPUs and the respective Z890 motherboard platforms, Crucial is releasing its next-generation DDR5 CUDIMM memory portfolio, offering faster speeds, & performance for the latest PCs. Some of the features of the DDR5 CUDIMM memory include:

  • Speed: Up to 6,400MT/s
  • Density: 16GB
  • Compatibility: Intel Core Ultra processors (Series 2)
  • Form factor: Clock driver memory (CUDIMM and CSODIMM)
  • 2x faster the data rates and bandwidth of DDR4
  • Installs in 14th gen or lower reach speeds of 5,600MT/s or lower
  • On-module power management integrated circuit (PMIC)
  • Two independent 32-bit channels per module (64 bits total)
  • Improved refresh schemes
  • On-die ECC (ODECC) for long-term stability

Starting today, Crucial is rolling out its first iteration of DDR5 CUDIMM memory which is based on its 16 GB modules. These modules can be bought separately or in a 32 GB kit. The modules come with a clock driver which is tuned to deliver 15% faster speeds than non-clock driver-based DRAM modules, offering speeds of up to 6400 MT/s out of the box. The memory will be available in both CUDIMM and CSODIMM flavors for desktop and laptop PCs.

Micron Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: MU), today announced the availability of a brand-new category of clock driver memory with the launch of its Crucial® DDR5 clocked unbuffered dual inline memory modules (CUDIMM) and clocked small outline dual memory modules (CSODIMM), which are now shipping in volume. The JEDEC-standard solutions run at speeds up to 6,400 MT/s (megatransfers per second), more than twice as fast as DDR41 and 15% faster than traditional non-clock-driver-based DDR5.

Designed to provide more speed stability, faster downloads and better refresh rates, these solutions represent a completely new frontier of memory form factors for next-generation PCs. Micron’s CUDIMM and CSODIMM solutions are the industry’s first commercially available JEDEC-standard DDR5 CUDIMM and CSODIMM solutions to hit the market since JEDEC standardized the specification earlier this year.

Crucial is also confirming today that it has validated higher capacity DDR5 CUDIMM memory with up to 64 GB capacities using its 32 Gb DRAM ICs which can scale up to 256 GB memory for next-generation platforms such as the aforementioned Core Ultra 200S series. These high-end & high-capacity kits will push what’s possible for the latest PC builds and we can also expect faster memory speeds in the future.

The validation of these new client memory modules by Intel will empower top PC manufacturers and integrators to begin adopting Micron’s innovative clock driver-based memory into forthcoming PC platforms. Notably, Micron is the first memory vendor to validate 32 gigabit diebased 64GB CUDIMM and CSODIMM solutions for Intel Core Ultra desktop processors. This enables system capacities up to 256GB for AI PCs and high-end workstations, which demand high memory densities and performance.

Crucial does expect there to be thermal differences between CKD and Non-CKD memory modules but since these are JEDEC modules running at 1.1V, they aren’t going to be that significant and the modules will run just fine without a heat spreader.

As of right now, the Crucial 16 GB DDR5 CUDIMM memory is priced at $84.99 US while the 32 GB kit is priced at $169.99 US. These memory modules come with a limited lifetime warranty and the company expects 64 GB capacities to become available for purchase in the first half of 2025. We can also expect 24 GB and 48 GB modules in the future.
