Dave Portnoy teasing $250,000 World Series of Poker entry: ‘Light work’

Dave Portnoy looks ready to go all-in at the World Series of Poker this year.

“I’m thinking I may go win this specific event,” Portnoy posted on X with an image of a World Series of Poker three-day event starting June 21. “(A) 250k buy in. Apparently, I still get a bracelet, which is the important thing. And it will only take me 3 days or so. Light work.”

Portnoy had previously mentioned Saturday that winning the World Series of Poker was on his mind — seemingly referencing the Main Event — but the calendar may not work for him.

“I can’t decide whether I want to go win the World Series of Poker this year or not. I wish it wasn’t so close to 4th of July,” the Barstool Sports founder posted.

The World Championship Main Event is the most noteworthy event of the tournament and is televised yearly, becoming a mainstream event during the mid-2000s.

This year’s tournament will run from July 3–17 and will be aired on CBS Sports, with the winner receiving a bracelet in addition to the tournament earnings.

If Portnoy wanted to play in the Main Event but still enjoy the holiday, he could take advantage of late registration, with entrants being allowed to enter as late as July 8.

However, there are several drawbacks to that strategy, as other players will take a sizable lead in the tournament, giving all late registrations a challenging stack disadvantage.

The WSOP reports that roughly half of the contestants will be gone by Day 3 of the tournament, meaning there will be multiple clear leaders by that point.

With Portnoy seemingly uninterested in that tough roadmap to victory, he is opting for a different tournament that has an insanely high $250,000 buy-in.

Christopher Brewer won the 2023 “Super High Roller Tournament”, earning $5,293,556 and the famed bracelet, which holds substantial status symbols worldwide.

It is unclear if the Super High Roller Tournament will be televised or streamed, as it doesn’t appear like it was in 2023, but Portnoy would bring enough fanfare that there would be enough interest for a streaming service or TV network to jump in.
