‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Shatters Records With 5M Opening Weekend

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ has been a box-office smash for Marvel, earning an estimated $205 million in its opening weekend. The Marvel film broke the record for the largest opening ever for an R-rated movie. The record was previously held by ‘Deadpool’ at $132.4 million. The superhero blockbuster also had the eighth-largest domestic opening weekend ever, beating out ‘Black Panther’ and ‘The Avengers’. The film, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, had the biggest opening of any film since ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ in 2021. This was a huge win for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as ‘The Marvels’ was such a box-office disappointment. Marvel also shocked fans by announcing that ‘Iron Man’ star Robert Downey Jr. will be returning to the franchise as a new character, Doctor Doom.
