Decatur businesses say consider shopping local for holidays
DECATUR, IL (WICS) — Small businesses in Decatur said it’s tough competition against big name brands like Amazon and Shein for the holiday rush.
Sheryol Threewit, owner of All Things Beautiful Gift Boutique, has been in business for almost 13 years.
Threewit said she has to get creative to keep customers coming.
“I’ve had book signings, we do Small Business Saturday, and when we do the X-Mas walk, I have a DJ!” Threewit said.
“I just try to carry things that people cannot find in the web,” Threewit said.
Many of Threewit’s wares are handmade.
Threewit said events like Small Business Saturday bring in support for small businesses.
One small business consultant NewsChannel20 spoke to said the best way to help out small businesses is to get vocal with your support on social media.
Decatur’s Small Business Saturday event is November 30 from 10 am to 4 pm.
