Detroit makes Travel + Leisure list of top travel destinations for 2025
Detroit does the hustle at the 2024 NFL draft
More than 100 people joined together to do the hustle in front of the NFL draft theater between rounds 4-7 at the 2024 NFL draft in Detroit on Saturday April 27, 2024.
Next year’s coveted vacation may be right at home now that Travel + Leisure has named Detroit a top travel destination in 2025. T+L cited the beauty of the newly renovated Detroit Book Tower and the unmatched energy of the 2024 NFL draft crowd as why this is a can’t-miss destination for “Big City Thrills.”
According to two dozen staffers at T+L, the 50 Best Places to Travel to in 2025 represent “places that feel of the moment, whether that’s because they offer unparalleled access to the outdoors, a cultural immersion you can’t find anywhere else, a pulse-quickening hit of excitement, or the sort of blissful luxury only a true five-star property can deliver.”
Detroit is ranked alongside renowned international travel destinations like Hong Kong and blossoming tourism industries like Marrakesh. In an email to T+L, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan wrote, “It really is a magical time in Detroit right now, and we hope people will come to check it out for themselves.” Dan Gilbert is also quoted in the story, adding, “Detroit is growing faster than ever with creativity, talent, innovation, and opportunity.”
This is not the first time a location in Michigan has been recognized as a top travel destination. Earlier this year, T+L ranked nearby Harbor Springs as the best small lake town in the U.S. This summer, Eastern Market was also ranked among the nation’s most popular hidden gems by travel information website Places to Travel.
