Escambia County received a development proposal in late September that is seeking to build a new commercial hub in Ferry Pass with a shopping center and a restaurant space.

The project is called Nine Mile Retail Center and its developers want to turn a 4.18-acre site into a nearly 10,000-square-foot shopping center and a restaurant building with 5,259 square feet of interior space, as well as a 1,478-square-foot exterior space.

Potential tenants for the shopping center and restaurant space are not available yet.

Three access points are planned in the proposal, two of which will lead motorists onto Wanda Drive while the last one will provide access onto Nine Mile Road.

They also plan to create a parking lot that the shopping center and restaurant will share with 124 spots, including six handicap spaces and a crosswalk between buildings.

Ping Man LLC is the listed owner and developer of the project in its site plans filed with Escambia County, and they proposed constructing the potential hub next to the incoming Cefco gas station on East Nine Mile Road.

They have owned the site of the proposed project for two years after buying the land for a sum of $995,000 from Nine Mile Road Retail Centers LLC, according to the warranty deed filed on the Escambia County Property Appraiser’s website.

The plans for Nine Mile Retail Center were proposed to Escambia County on Sept. 26. The project is scheduled for an initial application review by the county’s Development Review Committee on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
