Dimensity 9400 Goes Official As MediaTek’s First 3nm Chipset, With No Efficiency Cores, Up To 35 Percent Faster CPU Performance Than Dimensity 9300 & More
MediaTek has gone ahead and officially announced its first second-generation 3nm chipset, the Dimensity 9400. Mass produced on the same cutting-edge architecture from TSMC that introduced Apple’s M4, A18 and A18 Pro, the new SoC delivers significant improvements over its direct predecessor, the Dimensity 9300, in performance, efficiency and generative AI capabilities. Here, we go through all the features and specifications of the latest release.
MediaTek claims that the Dimensity 9400 is up to an impressive 40 percent more efficient than the Dimensity 9300, with the supported LPDDR5X memory reaching a new high in terms of bandwidth
Like last year’s Dimensity 9300 and Dimensity 9300+, MediaTek has adopted an ‘all performance core’ configuration with the Dimensity 9400, as the latest silicon does not feature any efficiency cores. Coming to the CPU cluster, you get one Cortex-X925 core running at 3.63GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. The latest chipset also touts 12MB of L3 cache and 10MB of SLC cache. Complementing the ‘1 + 3 + 4’ cluster, the Dimensity 9400 sports a new 12-core ARM Immortalis-G925 GPU that is said to deliver 41 percent faster peak performance and 40 percent faster ray tracing performance compared to the Dimensity 9300.
As for the CPU, MediaTek claims that the Dimensity 9400 is 35 percent faster in single-core performance and 28 percent faster in multi-core performance compared to the Dimensity 9300. The new release does not get support for the new LPDD5T RAM, but the LPDDR5X standard. However, the memory operates at a faster 10.7GB/s bandwidth. Coming to the Dimensity 9400’s AI prowess, MediaTek has introduced its new AI Agentic Engine that features a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) which is 35 percent more power efficient and is up to 80 percent faster in Large Language Models prompt performance.
On the camera side, the Dimensity 9400 can support a single camera up to 320MP, with video capture capabilities that go up to 8K at 60FPS. For wireless connectivity, MediaTek’s flagship SoC is treated to Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and an updated 5G modem that can reach 7GB/s downlink speeds. The remainder of the specifications are present in the sheet above, and in case you were wondering about the launch, MediaTek says that the Dimensity 9400 will be available in the fourth quarter of this year, with Vivo likely to be one of the first phone partners to launch a slew of devices powered by the 3nm chipset.
An earlier leak revealed that Vivo’s most affordable Dimensity 9400 flagship is said to cost just $570, hinting that the newly announced SoC might not be too taxing on the wallet. In any case, we will wait for more updates regarding pricing and update our readers accordingly, so stay tuned.
