Dino Day

The Louisiana Art & Science Museum, 100 S. River Road, will host Dino Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 22. Visitors will have the chance to engage with a paleontologist, participate in hands-on activities and watch immersive, dinosaur-themed shows in the Pennington Planetarium, among other activities.

Episcopal School theater students have been selected to perform on the Main Stage at the 2024 International Thespian Festival at Indiana University from June 23 to June 28. 




Episcopal performance

Episcopal School theater students have been selected to perform on the Main Stage at the 2024 International Thespian Festival at Indiana University from June 23 to June 28. The local thespians are one of only nine productions selected for this year’s Main Stage, considered the top honor at the festival.

The students will perform Paula Vogel’s “Indecent.” In addition, 18 students qualified for the national competition in the acting, musical theatre and dance categories.

Before leaving for Indiana, they will provide an opportunity for the community to see the production at 7 p.m. June 21, at the school, 3200 Woodland Ridge Ave. Tickets are $20 and are available at the door or online at ehsbr.seatyourself.biz.

Art Guild exhibit

The Art Guild of Louisiana’s “Workshop Show” runs through Sept.12, at Independence Park Theatre, 7800 Independence Park Blvd.

This show features artists’ work completed in a workshop setting. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Admission is free.

Jazz at Saurage

Tickets are on sale for a performance by jazz bassist Brian Quezuergue at Wednesday, June 19, at the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center, 233 St. Ferdinand St. Quezuergue is the guest for the Alvin Batiste Jazz Society Listening Room.

Photographer’s talk

Louisiana’s Old State Capitol, 100 S. River Road, will host a photographer’s talk with Philip Gould at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 25. Gould’s photos are featured in the Old Capitol’s exhibit, “Bridging the Mississippi: Spans Across the Father of Waters,” through Oct. 5.

The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge is showing Caleb Gridley’s exhibit, “Anointing the Artifice” through July 12 in the Shell Gallery in the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center, 233 St. Ferdinand St.

Opelousas Artist Theon Guillory will unveil his cut out of zydeco musician Clifton Chenier on June 22 at the Opelousas Museum & Interpretive Center.

The Opelousas Museum & Interpretive Center, 315 N. Main St., Opelousas will host its “Clifton Chenier Tribute: Zydeco Jam and Cut Out Unveiling” from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 22.

The museum, along with the St. Landry Parish Tourism and Opelousas Tourism will pay tribute to Chenier through art and music. A larger-than-life cutout image of the musician will be unveiled, designed by Opelousas artist Theon Guillory.
