‘Dirty Jobs’ star celebrates 10th anniversary of Build Dakota Scholarship at Western Dakota Tech

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Some jobs are just dirtier than others.

Western Dakota Tech had ‘Dirty Jobs’ star Mike Rowe stop in on Thursday to celebrate the Build Dakota Scholarship’s ten-year anniversary.

The lecture included Rowe sharing personal stories and his experiences in various trade jobs.

Build Dakota is a scholarship program designed for students entering high-demand programs at South Dakota’s technical colleges.

It applies to numerous programs including automotive, agriculture technology, nursing and engineering technicians.

The scholarship allows people to earn their degree for free.

Rowe gave some advice to students looking to break into trades after graduation.

“Do yourself a favor and kick the tires on every single opportunity. You might have heard some things about welding, they might not be true. Get the facts, see for yourself how you can get on a path to six figures in the trades,” Rowe said.
