Brussels: Europe is beckoning youngsters from all over the globe to experience its vibrant culture and picturesque locales. Around 35,551 youth would be allowed free passes to travel across the continent from July. DiscoverEU project envisions to enlighten youngsters about Europe’s unique cultural diversity, history and heritage. The project has been rolled out as part of the Erasmus+ program (an EU initiative to support education, training, and sport). Besides, it gives youngsters who are above 18 years, from the EU member nations as well as from the countries that are associated with the Erasmus program (including India), a splendid opportunity to travel across Europe. Around 1,80,000 youngsters had applied for the passes in the latest round of allocation that was held in April this year. Those who were allowed passes could travel in Europe solo or in groups of five, between July 1, 2024 and September 30 2025. Besides these passes, selected candidates would get a European youth card too, which could be used to avail discounts on public transport, cultural sites, accommodation, sports activities, research and food.

Twice a year
Generally, DiscoverEU has two rounds of application every year, in spring (April intake) and in autumn (October intake). The exact application dates will differ each year. Therefore, applicants should stay updated through the official DiscoverEU website or other EU communication channels. The application window will be open for a few weeks, during which eligible candidates can complete the procedures to obtain their travel passes. During the application process, you will have to take a short quiz about the EU, your travel plans and motivations for participating in the programme.
