Disney on Ice, Great Salt City Blues, Gingerbread Gallery: 10 things to do this week in Central NY
Happy holidays!
It is Christmas week in Central New York and there are plenty of choices for entertainment if you are looking to get out of the house.
(There are only so many football games and Hallmark movies a person can watch…)
Traditional favorites like Lights on the Lake and the Gingerbread Gallery at the Erie Canal Museum are open all week. The Palace Theatre has a production of the holiday favorite “The Nutcracker” on Christmas Eve afternoon.
Disney on Ice takes over the War Memorial all weekend.

Monday
“It’s a Festivus Miracle”
Air your grievances on Monday at Meier’s Creek Brewing Company’s Inner Harbor Taproom. They will be holding a Festivus party that even “Seinfeld’s” Frank Costanza would approve of. Running from 5-9 p.m., the party includes half-price wings, $1 off draft beers, a Festivus pole, Cayley Sheehan and Family will perform, and, of course, the traditional “airing of grievances.”

S’mores Indoors
Kick off holiday break with a tasty treat at Beaver Lake Nature Center. Come make s’mores by their indoor fireplace with a naturalist. Bring a blanket and gather around the fire while you eat s’mores and listen to several winter-themed stories. Please register here all members of your party who will want a s’more or two. Registration is $7 plus $5 park admission. The event runs from 11 a.m. to noon.

Tuesday
“Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella”
If you have not yet made it to Syracuse Stage to see “Cinderella” you still have time, with dates scheduled through the holidays. Syracuse.com’s Linda Lowen says this production of the well-known fairy tale “pushes against the “same old same old” as the title character herself says onstage. “So long sooty orphan—this Cinderella has a seize-the-day practicality and the confidence of an influencer. Grand Kyiv Ballet Presents “Nutcracker”
The Palace Theatre hosts this traditional holiday favorite on Christmas Eve afternoon. The Grand Kyiv Ballet, including the most prestigious Ballet dancers from Ukraine, invites you to a heartwarming experience that has thrilled audiences on the world’s stages for years. In the enchanting tale, a young girl befriends a nutcracker that comes to life on Christmas Eve. Doors open at 11 a.m. for the noon show. Click here to purchase tickets.

Wednesday
Lights on the Lake
Looking for something to do after unwrapping gifts and Christmas dinner? Lights on the Lake is open on the holiday and through January 13. The annual drive-thru show will be open from 5-10 p.m., with two miles of Christmas lights on display at Onondaga Lake Park in Liverpool. This year’s Lights on the Lake will feature two new light displays in Holiday Traditions, plus the addition of Cheerleaders in Sports. Thursday
Disney on Ice: Into the Magic
The Upstate Medical Arena at the Oncenter War Memorial will be hosting Disney on Ice all weekend. “Into The Magic” takes families on a high-sea adventure as Moana sets sail on a life-changing quest to save her island with help from the demigod Maui. She will be joined by Anna and Elsa, Rapunzel and Flynn, and Cinderella. Click here for tickets and more information.

The GREAT Salt City Blues Concert 8
The GREAT Salt City BLUES Concert 8 will be a held at a new venue this year, the St. George Church Hall om Onondaga Road. The area/s best musicians, including Morris Tarbell, Mark Doyle, Ronnie Leigh, Steve Grills and many others will be paying tribute to the music of four Blues Hall Of Fame members: Michael Bloomfield (2012), Johnny Guitar Watson (2008), Ruth Brown (2002) & Big Bill Broonzy. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Tickets are $30 in advance or $40 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at brownpapertickets.com or Sound Garden at Armory Square. Attendance will be limited to 400 seated patrons and there will be plenty of free parking at the Macedonian Orthodox Church parking lot. Food and beverages will be available and served by the church staff.

“The Arctic: Our Last Great Wilderness”
Syracuse’s Museum of Science and Technology will be open daily during holiday break with fun activities and special hands-on demonstrations. On Thursday, they debut their latest movie, “The Arctic: Our Last Great Wilderness” at the National Grid ExploraDome. Showings are at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. “T-Rex” and “Space: The New Frontier” will also be show throughout the day. Click here for a complete schedule.

Friday
Gingerbread Gallery
Each year, more than 4,000 visitors visit the Gingerbread Gallery at the Erie Canal Museum. This is the annual exhibit’s 39th year. More than 40 houses are on display through January 12. The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum closes early on New Year’s Eve and is closed New Year’s Day.

Saturday
Jeremy Romance at Lost Horizon
To celebrate the release of his modern Emo rap anthem “Moment 2K25,” Jeremy Romance will be taking the stage on Saturday night at the Lost Horizon. The song has captivated listeners with its “innovative blend of nostalgic elements and contemporary beats” just in time for New Years. The event will also feature the dynamic Zero Friends Club and special guest performers, promising an electrifying night filled with music and emotion. Tickets are $10 at the door. Doors open at 6 p.m.
