Dodgers win streak snapped by Padres in walk-off fashion

The Dodgers (26-14) didn’t start their 13-game stretch Friday night in San Diego the way they wanted to. The best offense in the MLB dropped the first game of the series to the Padres (21-20) who walked it off 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth.

The Dodgers’ bats ran into a completely dominant Michael King who looked like a totally different pitcher from his two previous games against the Dodgers this season. King slightly edged out Glasnow, but both teams each struck out 13 opposing batters on the night.

Tyler Glasnow got his second start against the Padres and the first one since the Seoul Series in South Korea. He struck out 10 Braves in his last time out, and the strikeout machine did not stop at Petco. Michael King and Glasnow combined for nine strikeouts through the first two innings.

The Dodgers missed out on a scoring opportunity in the second. They got two men on with two outs thanks to a fielding error by first baseman Jake Cronenworth, but Gavin Lux struck out to end the mini rally with a scoreless thud.

The first hit for the Dodgers came from none other than Shoehi Ohtani with one out in the top of the third giving the Dodgers another shot with the bases loaded against King. King continued to befuddle the Dodgers with his changeup. He struck out Freddie Freeman and Will Smith consecutively, and the Dodgers stranded yet another two runners.

The Padres struck first in the bottom of the third when Luis Campusano homered off Glasnow to give the Padres a 1-0 lead.

In the eighth, Ohtani’s second hit of the game was a hard-hit double to left field off left-handed reliever Yuki Matsui. Mookie Betts scored on a Freeman sac fly to tie the game 1-1.

Blake Treinen took over for Glasnow for the home half the eighth, and he wowed with some unreal sliders and another two Ks.

Campusano struck again in the bottom of the ninth. Michael Grove came out of the Dodgers’ bullpen for the bottom of the ninth and promptly surrendered a leadoff double.

Of course it was Luis Arraez who singled on a line drive to center fielder James Outman. Pinch-runner Tyler Wade scored on the base hit to give the Padres their first walk-off win of the year.
