Does Your Wardrobe Really Need A Khaki Button Up?

Here at T&C, we pride ourselves on our discerning eye for quality. With Tried & True, our editors will give you an inside look at the pieces they simply cannot live without.

This past NYFW made me realize just how important a good button up really is in a girl’s wardrobe. With sometimes multiple outfit changes in a day, you learn what the heroes in your wardrobe are quickly. My silk organza blouse was one such essential, but I honestly wore a new addition, a gorgeous khaki button up from Soldout.NYC, multiple times, and I now am a convert.

The Everything Shirt in Fawn

Turns out, the Everything Shirt is, in fact, everything. I used to believe that the only true non-negotiable in a closet was a classic white button up. But last year, I started to experiment: I got a black style, which became a piece I lean on heavily for evening dressing. I, of course, have classic white ones in a range of slim to oversize. But this khaki top works with everything; I’m talking paired with my favorite denim (classic blue or off white), worn with a slip skirt, over satin pants untucked, or over a form-fitting dress and belted? Pretty much every way works well.

Let’s talk details shall we? The Everything Shirt is made of 100 percent cotton, and the fabric really is something else. It’s silky and almost cooling to the touch, but not overly lightweight. It breathes and is comfortable in warmer temps. It also has a rounded hem and a box pleat at the back, which I find to be a particularly sophisticated touch for a piece worn un-tucked. Now, the button up is indeed oversized, but it’s not super big. (I wear an XS, in case you were wondering.) I can’t really explain it but it just has that perfect effortless look that’s totally unfussy and chic.

Of all the ways I’ve worn it, I would have to say with a pair of jeans, tucked in, with a great pair of oversize shades felt best—especially in the khaki hue. It’s not so expected, very flattering to the complexion, and feels very “Jackie O on the Upper East Side.” It’s a piece I know I will wear for years, and probably, wear tomorrow too.
