Dog Mom Lists Funny ‘Jobs’ Her Corgi and Other Pups Are Qualified For

If your dog had to get a job, what would it be qualified to do? My 7-month-old puppy could take on a job as a woodchipper (her favorite thing to do is gnaw on tree branches) or as a taste tester since she’ll eat anything. My Brown Newfies is the paw-rent to a couple of Newfoundlands and a Corgi, and in mid-June they shared a video of all of the jobs that their dogs would be qualified for. There’s a lot of them!

From a Newfie window washer to a Corgi yard surveyor, they got pretty creative with listing the jobs that their dogs are qualified to do. Make sure your sound is on because the song that accompanies the video is the best! Which job is your favorite?

I love how at the end mom said that references are available upon request. It was a cute way to end the video! My Brown Newfies’ fans thought that this idea was awesome. @Vivi laughed and called it, “Brilliant!!” and mom responded, “It was all their idea LOL!” I’m with @kristi who said, “Omg love it!!! I fell out on Branch Manager!!!” and mom replied, “Lou and Finn can often be seen fighting for that position!” @BoredCatMom shared, “I will hire them all and give them kisses and snuggles and treats as payment.” and mom replied, “They’re definitely willing to work for snuggles and treats!”

Jobs That Dogs Can Help with Around the House

If you’re looking for ways to get your dog to earn their keep, there are plenty of chores around the house that they can help with. But first, they need to learn their basic commandsMy Animals says that all dogs should learn: “Simple commands like “heel,” “sit,” “lay down,” “calm down,” “come here,” and “fetch.” They’re the foundation of your dog’s education, and they’ll help you teach them more complex things, like the following chores for dogs.”

Not sure where to start? How about teaching your dog to pick up after itself by putting toys in a designated spot. Our puppy has so many toys scattered around that it looks like when our kids were all toddlers and left a mess in every room! If your dog is tall enough to reach the light switch, you can teach it to turn lights on and off for you. Does your dog make a mess after drinking from its water bowl? This dog mom shared a genius trick to get them to clean up after themselves.

Our puppy has learned how to open the door (when it’s not all the way closed) when she wants to come back inside the house. We’re working on teaching her to push it closed with her head, but she doesn’t like to do that and is being stubborn about it. It’s a work in process.

With some time and a lot of patience, you can get your dog to help around the house. As with anytime you train your dog, only work on one trick or command at a time until they’ve mastered it. Use positive reinforcements and lots of treats too! Training sessions should be no more than 10 minutes or so at a time, but you can do them a few times throughout the day. It’s worth it in the long run.
