Donald Trump takes credit for LA 2028 Olympics: ‘Got the job done’

Former President Donald Trump has claimed credit for securing Los Angeles as the host city for the 2028 Olympics, in a late-night Truth Social post on Sunday.

“As President-Elect, I worked with the Olympic Organizing Committee of Los Angeles in getting the 2028 Olympics to come to the United States. There was tremendous competition from other countries,” he wrote.

Los Angeles had initially been competing with Paris to host this year’s Olympics. In 2017, Trump put his weight behind the city’s bid, but the Olympic Organizing Committee awarded Paris hosting rights for 2024 and Los Angeles rights for 2028.

In his Truth Social post Trump also accused former President Barack Obama of not being supportive of the bid.

“President Obama refused to speak to the International Olympic Committee (perhaps because of a previous rejection by them of a proposal personally made by him!), which needed the enthusiastic support and approval of the U.S. President – Without which they would not have chosen our Country.”

Trump met with Thomas Bach, the president of the International Olympic Committee at the White House in June 2017.

Obama did not meet IOC representatives at the White House but did attend an IOC session in Copenhagen in 2009 to back Chicago’s ultimately unsuccessful bid for the 2016 Games.

Obama’s personal pitch to the IOC for Chicago was rejected and the organizers gave hosting rights to the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro instead.

Trump concluded by writing that, if elected as president in November, he would bring the same approach to deal-making that secured the Olympics to making the country successful.

“I gave them what they wanted to hear, and got the job done!” he said. “It was my great honor to do so. Hopefully I will be President, and our Country will have reached new (and record!) levels of success. SEE YOU IN 2028. Thank you!”

It was one of several posts the Republican presidential candidate posted on Truth Social Sunday night.

In an earlier post he took aim at President Joe Biden and Democraticpresidential candidate Kamala Harris, who he said “failed to get even a single Primary Vote.” He also mentioned his team’s “constant 8 year obstacle of dealing with the Fake News and low self esteem leakers.”

“I’m doing really well in the Presidential Race, leading in almost all of the REAL Polls,” he wrote.

In the past week, Harris has pulled ahead in polling in several battleground states, as well as nationally. Before Biden stepped aside, Trump had led polling in every key swing state: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Nevada.

Shortly before midnight on Sunday, he wrote: “Kamala Harris was put in sole charge of the Border. It quickly became the WORST AND MOST DANGEROUS BORDER IN HISTORY. As President, Harris will completely DESTROY OUR COUNTRY!”

In March 2021, Biden assigned Harris the task of overseeing diplomatic efforts with the governments of Mexico and other Central American countries to deal with the “root cause” of the influx of migrants across the southern border.

Customs and Border Protection data shows that a higher number of unauthorized migrants have crossed into the U.S. each month under the Biden-Harris administration than under the previous Trump administration.
