COSTCO shoppers are turning in their membership cards over price hikes they just can’t get behind.

One customer said watching an essential item double in cost drove them to officially call it quits.

A disgruntled Costco shopper recently shared their woes on Reddit in the Costco subreddit.

The loyal shopper said they’ve been buying from Costco for 20 years, but they just can’t take it anymore.

Despite having been to the wholesale retailer in multiple countries over the years, “I am about done with Costco and the price increases,” they wrote.

In a household of two, the user said most of the bulk food they buy goes to waste and feels like “throwing money away.”

Despite liking Costco for frozen items, cheese, and toilet paper, it’s one item in particular that’s giving them trouble.

With three cats at home that eat both hard food and tuna, they were once able to time big time by making their chat food purchases at Costco.

“But while a few years ago it was $17 for a bag now it is 37. That is just too damn much,” they vented.

Once their membership expires, they might be calling it quits for good, they said in closing.

Users flocked to the comments to discuss potential price hikes at Costco.

“Are you assuming that other stores haven’t raised their prices?” said one user in defense of Costco.

Another argued that “Costco shoppers seem to have no clue how much worse it is at other grocery stores.”

As a self-proclaimed new Costco-goer, they said their dog food comes larger and cheaper than what they could ever find online.

To help the shopper solve for the waste issue, others suggested they seek elsewhere for groceries.

“Aldi is one of the best budget grocery stores you will find,” said one Redditor.

“They are often comparable to Costco prices in smaller quantities.”

Costco memberships can be canceled and refunded at any time if a customer is dissatisfied.

PRICE CHECK

Customers have cited a slew of other groceries they’ve witness double in price over the years.

One user said they watched the store’s case of glass bottled Mexican Coke go from “$17.99, then 22.99 in 2021,” all the way to “$32.99.”

Another shopper claimed eggs, which used to be $3.99, were priced at $6.79 in 2023 in a post on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

Though milk hasn’t necessarily doubled in price, customers say they’ve found it for cheaper at Trader Joe’s and Kroger.
