Detroit native and Lions wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones will be the featured speaker at the Detroit High School Sports, presented by Detroit Area Honda Dealers.

The show is produced in partnership with the U.S. Army.

The Detroit High School Sports Awards, one of 20 regional shows across the United States, is a nine-month student-athlete recognition program that will culminate at a red-carpet show this spring. The show will recognize athletes, coaches, and teams from across the greater Detroit region that play in sanctioned Michigan High School Athletic Association sports.

The show will be held on June 18 at The Fillmore Detroit. Tickets are now available.

There isn’t a level of football Peoples-Jones hasn’t played in Michigan.

A 2017 graduate of Cass Tech, Peoples-Jones was a five-star recruit and rated the best wide receiver in the state since Charles Rogers in 2000. During his senior season, he was named the Michigan High School Football Player of the Year.

Peoples-Jones then traveled down to Ann Arbor to and made an immediate impact for the Wolverines. He was named a freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of American and 247Sports. He was also named the team’s Rookie of the Year. During his Michigan career he was a two-time All Big-Ten selection at wide receiver and twice as a punt returner.

Peoples-Jones was selected in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. After three productive seasons in Cleveland, he was traded to the Lions on Oct. 31, 2023. In eight games with the Lions, he caught five passes for 58 years and played 30 special teams snaps. He signed a new deal with the Lions in March 2024.
