“Don’t Buy Into All of This Dog S**t”: Renaissance Periodization’s Mike Israetel Bashes Fitness Sensation Preaching Intermittent Fasting

Exercise scientist Dr. Mike Israetel brutally critiqued an infamous video by equally infamous fitness influence Gregory O’Gallagher, aka Kinobody. While Kinobody’s popularity may have faded, his ‘The Real Bruce Wayne Revealed’ video remains a prime example of the content that found traction during the early days of fitness social media.

Mike Israetel joined a long line of veteran bodybuilders and fitness influencers who have spoken about the video with 3.3 million views. The Renaissance Periodization founder picked apart the video, warning impressionable people not to listen to O’Gallagher’s advice. The science-based bodybuilding coach explained what the intermittent fasting enthusiast got wrong about muscle building and testosterone maximization.

O’Gallagher claimed that he had experimented with certain foods to boost the body’s natural testosterone production. “When I have my chocolate at night I’ll do a little teaspoon of raw honey,” said the bodybuilder in his video. “Raw honey can actually help increase your luteinizing hormone which is the precursor to testosterone,” explained Kinobody. However, Israetel didn’t buy it.

“I wonder how much peer-reviewed literature exists on that,” said the exercise scientist. He followed it up with brutal denouement and scientific evidence. “Folks don’t buy into this dog sh*t,” said the bodybuilding coach. Mike Israetel explained that trying to maximize testosterone production through certain food items is ineffective.

Instead, the Renaissance Periodization founder listed five proven ways to maximize testosterone. Israetel recommended eating a balanced diet, being lean (10 to 20 percent body fat), training consistently, and getting adequate sleep. The former competitive bodybuilder said that these steps reliably maximize testosterone production.

Israetel also said that intermittent fasting would help anyone put on muscle. While Kinobody touted some benefits like increasing productivity, yet again he had no scientific studies to back up his claim. So Mike Israetel dismissed any notions of intermittent fasting helping optimize hormone production or hunger. However, Israetel isn’t the first person to criticize Kinobody.

Natural bodybuilder Geoffrey Verity Schofield has also criticized Kinobody’s body fat percentage analysis skills. While O’Gallagher claims to be below 10% body fat, his physique doesn’t match the look of pro bodybuilders who have been measured to have below 10% body fat. IFBB Pro Greg Doucette even said Kinobdy faked his client’s transformation to sell his bodybuilding program.

Dr. Mike Israetel is the latest in the long line of people who don’t agree with Kinobody. However, the exercise scientist said that the fitness influencer has many other videos that he might scrutinize in the future as well.
