Dortmund director Ricken calls on players to take responsibility

Borussia Dortmund managing director for sport Lars Ricken called on the players to take responsibility after consecutive defeats to Real Madrid in the Champions League and Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

In both cases, Dortmund had taken the lead, but couldn’t finish the game with a win.

Ahead of the German Cup match against VfL Wolfsburg on Tuesday, Ricken asked “each individual to simply ask themselves how they can effectively use their individual quality, which ultimately brought them to Dortmund, in the interests of the team” in an interview to the Funke media group.

Ricken backed coach Nuri Sahin and sporting director Sebastian Kehl despite the recent setbacks.

“Unlike most people, I see the coach working with his team. This happens conscientiously, constructively and very intensively,” he said.

The task now is to find a pragmatic solution, he added.

“I know that Nuri Sahin, his team and the sporting management will be focusing exclusively and fully on this ahead of the important Wolfsburg game.”
