DOUGLAS COUNTY EMPLOYERS ADD 90 JOBS IN JUNE

Douglas County’s payroll employment gained 90 jobs in June after a gain of 10 in May and a loss of 190 in April.
A State of Oregon Employment Department release said in the not seasonally adjusted private-sector industries in June, there were seasonal gains of 130 jobs in leisure and hospitality, and 100 in construction. There were losses of 50 in private education and health services and 40 in manufacturing.
Regional Economist Brian Rooney said the government category gained 10 jobs in June from gains of 20 in federal government and 10 in state government that were countered by a loss of 20 in local government.
Rooney said when comparing June 2024 with June 2023, total nonfarm employment decreased 60 jobs or 0.2 percent. Private sector over-the-year gains were seen with 80 in both construction and private education and health services, and 20 in the other services category. There were relatively large losses of 150 in professional and business services, of 60 in manufacturing, and of 40 in these three categories: wholesale trade, retail trade, and transportation, warehousing and utilities.
OED said government gained 70 jobs over the year from gains of 60 in local government and 20 in state government, that were countered by a loss of 10 in federal government.
Douglas County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.0 percent in June compared with a revised 5.0 percent in May. The rate is up from 4.5 percent in June 2023. Douglas County’s record low unemployment rate was set in October 2019 at 4.3 percent. The Oregon seasonally adjusted June rate was 4.1 percent equal to the U.S. rate, also of 4.1 percent.
