Down Syndrome Association of the Emerald Coast sets up shop at local market
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – One local group joined vendors at a new shopping location Saturday to sell their crafts and spread their message.
Members of the Down Syndrome Association of the Emerald Coast brought arts and crafts to sell at Panama City Beach’s new indoor flea market. Many of the crafts were made by people with the association that have down syndrome, and they were able to negotiate deals when setting prices with customers.
They weren’t just there to sell crafts; those with the association say they also went to the market to spread their message that people with down syndrome have a lot to contribute to the community, especially when they have resources and support systems.
“I hope along the way I can help- if they need a wheelchair, or they need clothes or if [they] just need an ear or you’re a new parent, we want to be a resource,” Down Syndrome Association of the Emerald Coast President Marie Mishoe said. “The biggest thing we do for them, but I promise you they do way, way more for me than I do them.”
