Dozens of World War II ordnances found at home in Beatrice

BEATRICE, Neb. (WOWT) – About 40 pieces of inert ordnances were removed from a home last week after the resident died.

According to a Tuesday release from the Nebraska State Patrol, Beatrice Police officers reported finding the munitions on Thursday. The NSP Bomb Squad and members of the Nebraska Air National Guard 155th Explosive Ordnance Device unit reponded to the home to examine the items, finding them all to be inert.

The bomb squad and EOD unit investigate dozens of such reports every year after such items are located by families clearing out the belongings or a loved one, the NSP’s release states. Authorities are reminding the public to call 911 if they come across any potential explosive devices no matter how old the items might be.

“Thankfully in this case, none of the items were live munitions, but it’s not safe to assume that of any potential explosive device you may find,” said Sgt. Clayton Dishong, commander of the NSP Bomb Squad. “If you ever come across any potential explosive device when cleaning out a loved one’s home or in any other circumstance, call 911 immediately and do not move the item.”
