Driver hospitalized after crashing into business in Aventura – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports | Fort Lauderdale

AVENTURA, FLA. (WSVN) – – A driver was transported to the hospital after she crashed into a business in Aventura.

Aventura Police arrived at the scene at JDO Couture Dress Shop, located at 20335 Biscayne Blvd, Thursday morning.

According to police, the driver, a 63-year-old woman, was driving her Audi and attempted to park it, but instead hit the gas pedal and crashed into the store.

As a result, the glass storefront shattered and some damage was done to the clothing and mannequins inside. There were also pieces of wood seen on the floor.

“A friend of mine called and she’s like, ‘Hey, there’s a car in your store,’ and I’m like, ‘You’re joking,’” said Miriam BenMeleh, the store’s owner. “I was like, ‘Oh, there really is a car there.’”

BenMeleh has owned the boutique for 12 years and said she first thought it was a joke.

“Thought she was joking ’cause 11 years ago, the same thing happened,” she said.

Once rescue crews arrived at the scene, the driver was transported to Aventura Hospital for treatment.

Luckily, at the time of the incident, the business was closed and no other injuries were reported.

“In a way, it’s a blessing that nobody was around ’cause that obviously is more scary,” she said.

In the meantime, BenMeleh is now dealing with a large mess.

“You know, we have a cleaning crew and it should be fine,” she said.

The driver’s condition remains unknown and it is unclear if she suffered a medical episode when she crashed into the business.
