EA Sports College Football 25: Colorado Buffaloes team preview

The wait is almost over! EA Sports College Football 25 releases Friday, July 19. The 247Sports team is proud to be the exclusive media group to get early access to playing the game. To make sure fans are ready for the launch of EA Sports College Football 25, we preview some of the top teams in the video game. Today, it’s time to dig into Coach Prime and everything that the dynamic Colorado Buffaloes bring to EA Sports College Football 25.

Team expert Adam Munsterteiger of Buff Stampede has you covered with a Q&A session to get you ready to play with Colorado in College Football 25. Adam pinpoints everything you need to know about Coach Prime’s roster from impact players to choosing the best offensive and defensive playbooks to highlighting key games on the 2024 college football schedule.

What impact players should fans be controlling for Colorado when they pick up the controller?

“This one is a no-brainer. Two-way star Travis Hunter (95 overall player rating) was one of three college football players selected to be on the cover of the game’s deluxe edition and he was named the preseason Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. But it will be Hunter’s ability to make athletic catches as a receiver that will likely make him stand out the most in video game action. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders (93 overall player rating) is one of the nation’s most accurate quarterbacks, and if the creators of the game did their homework properly, receivers LaJohntay Wester and Will Sheppard will be other talented targets in the passing game. Defensively, BJ Green is a force as a pass rusher and Shilo Sanders should be a big hitter on the back end of the secondary.”

What are the best offensive and defensive playbooks to use with Colorado?

“The strength of Colorado’s offense is Shedeur Sanders’ arm talent and the Buffs receiving corps, so you will want to utilize a playbook that is heavy in 10 personnel (one running back and four receivers on the field). You will likely only want a tight end on the field in short yardage situations. Defensively, a base nickel package will allow you to get your best 11 on the field, given Colorado’s top end talent in the secondary. You should also be able to get aggressive with blitz packages with Colorado’s re-tooled front seven.”

When playing year one of dynasty mode with Colorado, what game should fans circle on the schedule?

“Colorado’s Week 2 game in Lincoln should be circled, just as Hall-of-Famer Bill McCartney did – in red ink – during his time coaching in Boulder. Colorado is 3-0 against Nebraska since they were last in the same conference, and the 2024 Buffs will try to add to that winning streak.”

What should your strategy be with Colorado to put them in a position to win a national title within a few years?

“Recruiting a quarterback to replace Shedeur Sanders has to be the No. 1 priority, as will continuing to develop both lines. There is already a lot of skill talent in the pipeline for the future.”

What is the first play you are calling to start the season?

“Shedeur Sanders to Travis Hunter or LaJohntay Wester on a short route is what will be expected, so run it between the tackles and set the tone and create a slightly more balanced offense than the Buffs did in 2023.”

Bud Elliott of 247Sports, and also of the Cover3 podcast, had this to say about Colorado in the game.

“You’ll take control of quarterback Shedeur Sanders, leading the offense with his pinpoint passes and electrifying playmaking ability. On the receiving end, Travis Hunter will be a game-changer, making spectacular catches and contributing on both sides of the ball. With a host of new transfers bolstering the roster, the Buffaloes will have a fresh and dynamic team ready to compete.”

In 2013, Bud created the Blue Chip Ratio — a breakdown of programs that have done well enough on the recruiting trail to actually win the College Football Playoff. You will be able to see Bud’s ratio in the game.
