Eagles QB doesn’t care about what his critics say: ‘The world has enough doubters’

Eagles quarterback Kenny Pickett is embracing a new opportunity.

As a two-year starter with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pickett finished with a 14-10 record, but he wasn’t given a lot of credit in those wins and was blamed for a lot of the losses.

He also dealt with injuries, including getting ankle surgery in December. Steelers fans hoped Pickett would become their next franchise quarterback, but it never happened. Two years later, the Steelers gave up on Pickett, sending him to Philadelphia for a third-round pick and two sevenths in March.

“Change is a great thing,” Pickett said at Shore Regional High School in New Jersey this week, via The Philadelphia Inquirer. “I’m going through it right now. I was in Pittsburgh for seven years, and now I’m over in Philadelphia. … I think a lot of people probably have some negative views on change, but that’s really just your outlook on it. I think if you keep a positive mindset, it’ll all work out for the better.”

After Pickett was traded, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the Steelers traded Pickett because of how poorly he handled the arrival of quarterback Russell Wilson. Dulac also said the decision came following Pickett’s behavior last season when he refused to dress as the emergency third quarterback against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17.

Tony Racioppi, Pickett’s private quarterbacks coach, told NJ Advance Media last month the narratives are “100 percent BS.”

Pickett isn’t too worried about his perception

“The world has enough doubters,” Pickett said. “There are plenty of people that are doubting. That’s probably the majority of people that are out there in the media, fan bases. But … coaches, family members, if you turn your mind around and try and prove them right and what they believe in you, you’ll be in a more positive mindset.”
