EARLY YEARS: Torbee on YouTube offers kids an educational choice in entertainment

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) -When kids get the wiggles, it’s time to get out the snacks.

It’s one of those life lessons former actress and mom Tori Garris has picked up along the way.

Raising Lincoln and Jade has prepared her for her another big role, hosting her own children’s online show called Torbee.

“A lot of kids content is great, but I just felt like I could do something like this. I could do something that’s made for moms. I’m a mom. I can make something that I’d enjoy watching,” says Garris.

Torbee launched a few years ago.

It aims to educate and entertain children 10 and under through playing, creating and exploring.

Episodes are color-coded to help parents decide what to watch.

“We have red episodes that cover emotions and safety. Yellow is story time and language. Green is nature and exploring. Blue is everything to do with math and numbers and building shapes. Purple is imagination and creativity,” says Garris.

There are also episodes like “Winnie the Pooh”.

“We took the old AA Milne book, and we read through the entire book, and so each and every chapter is going to be an episode,” she says.

The show is shot in and around Lynchburg.

Garris says to think of Torbee as a modern-day Mister Rogers.

Friends and family also help out with the show, including Garris’ son.

“I colored a coffee filter for an episode,” says Garris’ son, Lincoln.

Torbee “slows things down in a fast-paced world.”

The show lives up to that motto, and provides kid-safe entertainment that families can access on any device.

“We’re excited about parents feeling like this is a good resource I can turn to. This is something if the kids are frustrated, we can turn Torbee on. If we need to get outside, we can turn Torbee on,” says Garris.
