EAST MOLINE, Ill (KWQC) – Girl Scout troops from eastern Iowa and Western Illinois gathered together to celebrate different cultures around the world.

According to officials, Journey the World is the largest girl scout celebration in this region.

The mission of the girl scout troops across eastern Iowa and Western Illinois is to help make the world a better place.

“I am just really really proud of our organization and the way that we are able to come together and celebrate our girl scout movement as a whole. I grew up in the girl scout movement myself. So getting to come back and reconnect like this has meant so much just knowing how much our girls want to make the world a better place.” said Mikayla Ahrens, Senior Director of Member Experience of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois Girl Scouts.

Over 1,000 girls and volunteers were in attendance to learn new skills, build their character by participating in these events.

“Girl scouts is actually a global sisterhood. There are girl guides in other countries and obviously girl scouts in the United States.

Kids were able to learn about different cultures by visiting the booths that represent different countries around the world. So it feels really proud to come together, bring all the girl scouts in the region together, and just celebrate our movement. Really see how they can make the world a better place.” said Maura Warner, Vice President of Marketing and Retail of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois Girl Scouts.

According to officials, some of the activities consisted of creating snowballs, flying kites, and a giant dance party.

“Girl scouts is so important to me because we have the opportunity to build girls courage, their confidence and character. Our girl scouts help us to make the world a better place.” said Diane Nelson, CEO of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois Girl Scouts.

Apart of the organization, there are girl scouts who are starting kindergarten and there are girl scouts who are graduating high school. Anyone who is going into high school.
