Eastern New Mexico University hosts ribbon cutting for new fitness court

PORTALES, N.M. (KFDA) – Eastern New Mexico University will host a ribbon cutting Wednesday morning for a new fitness court on campus.

The outdoor Fitness Court was developed in partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield and National Fitness Campaign to provide free and equitable access to exercise. According to a press release, the Fitness Court lets people use their own body weight to get a complete workout using seven exercise stations.

“ENMU is proud to partner with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico and National Fitness Campaign to promote health and wellness,” said ENMU Chancellor James Johnston. “We understand that good health is integral to success in the classrooms and life. This fitness court also represents ENMU’s continued efforts to be a great community partner. We are committed to being innovative leaders in higher education and our community.”

The press release states the court was created for people of all fitness levels and all abilities ages 14 and up. Workouts are adaptable and let visitors move at their own pace.

The downloadable Fitness Court App can also enhance the outdoor gym experience.

Eastern New Mexico University states the court is open to the public and requires no membership.

The court was made possible by donations from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico, JP Stone Community Bank and Childers Construction.
