After his defeat of 2023 Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1T) winner Auguste Rodin in the Irish Champion Stakes (G1) Sept. 14, Economics joined the top 5 in the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings released Oct. 10.
Improving his rating from 121 to 123, Isa Salman Al Khalifa’s Economics entered a three-way tie for the fifth spot with Repole Stable’s Travers Stakes (G1) winner Fierceness and Godolphin’s 2022 Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Rebel’s Romance , who is 4-for-5 this year with three group 1 victories.
Fierceness again led all American-based horses 3 years old and upwards that have raced between Jan. 1 and Oct. 6. With a rating of 121, recently retired Belmont Stakes (G1) and Haskell Stakes (G1) winner Dornoch is in a seven-horse tie for 15th that includes Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1) and Metropolitan Handicap (G1) winner National Treasure and Saudi Cup (G1) winner Senor Buscador .
Horses who received a 120 rating, the 22nd and final spot on the list, resulted in a 23-horse tie. Among those represented in this spot are Jaipur Stakes (G1T) winner Cogburn , Maker’s Mark Mile Stakes (G1T) winner Master of The Seas , Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Mystik Dan , Blue Grass Stakes (G1) winner Sierra Leone , and four-time grade 1 winner Thorpedo Anna .
Bluestocking , winner of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1) Oct. 6, was given a 122 rating, tying her for eighth place.
The next edition of the World’s Best Racehorse Rankings will be published Nov. 14 after the Nov. 1-2 Breeders’ Cup World Championships.
