ECU alumnus sporting purple & gold wins World Series of Poker bracelet

LAS VEGAS, N.V. (WITN) – Clad in Pirate purple and gold, an ECU alumnus cashed in his chips to the tune of nearly $3,000,000 and a World Series of Poker bracelet.

The World Series of Poker says that Chris Hunichen won $2,838,389 million in its $100,00 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em.

Hunichen, who’s known on the poker circuit as “Big Huni,” hails from Clayton, North Carolina. Hunichen says he graduated from ECU in 2006 with a business degree and got his Master of Business Administration degree in 2009.

Hunichen says his father passed away last year and that this win was for him.

According to the WSOP, Hunichen won the tournament when a 9 on the final river card elevated his hand to triple 9s against Jeremy Ausmus’ two jacks.

The tournament took place at Horseshoe Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Hunichen won’t be resting long. He says he’s playing in the $250k tournament today.
